TOKYO : Japanese Finance Minister Shunichi Suzuki said on Tuesday he expected the Bank of Japan to steer monetary policy appropriately, declining to comment directly on a media report that the central bank may decide to tweak its bond yield control.
“I am aware of the media reports but will refrain from commenting on it as the policy-setting meeting is still going on,” Suzuki told reporters hours before the BOJ is set to announce its policy decision.
The Nikkei newspaper reported late on Monday that the BOJ would consider allowing the 10-year government bond yield to rise above a 1 per cent cap.
