Man to be charged after allegedly molesting woman at Singapore GP

SINGAPORE: Two men aged 36 and 37 will be charged in court on Monday (Nov 6) over an incident at this year’s Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix.

The 36-year-old will be charged with outrage of modesty while the other man, who was known to him, faces three charges of criminal force, voluntarily causing hurt and affray.

In a news release issued on Sunday, the Singapore Police Force said their officers were patrolling Connaught Drive on Sep 16 – the second day of the Singapore GP – when they came across a dispute.

“It was established that a 36-year-old man had allegedly molested a 20-year-old female victim,” the police said.

The 37-year-old then allegedly got into a fight with a 25-year-old man and pushed a 24-year-old woman during a scuffle, SPF added.

According to TikTok videos posted after the incident – which have since been deleted – the 24-year-old is the older sister of the woman who was allegedly molested, while the 25-year-old man is the boyfriend of the former.

For outrage of modesty, offenders could be jailed up to threeyears, fined, caned, or receive any combination of these punishments.

The offence of criminal force carries a jail term of up to 3 months, a fine of up to S$1,500, or both.

That of voluntarily causing hurt carries a jail term of up to 3 years, a fine of up to S$5,000, or both.

For affray, offenders could be jailed up to a year, fined up to S$5,000, or both.
