Hong Kong flag carrier Cathay Pacific banks on premium services in battle back to airline top flight

Hong Kong’s Cathay Pacific Airways is betting on new first and business-class cabins as it battles to win back its premium carrier status and regain passenger trust after a rough ride over the COVID-19 pandemic years.

Lavinia Lau Hoi-zee, Cathay Pacific’s chief customer and commercial officer, told the Post that the carrier’s goal was to be the world’s top premium airline, despite fierce competition from rivals such as Singapore Airlines and Gulf carriers.

“Actions speak louder than words,” Lau said. “To regain our position, to regain our customers’ trust, first of all, we are not taking anything for granted. We know that we have to do a lot of things to win our customers back.

“As a premium airline, we have to live up to that ambition, right? So we have to continue to invest. We cannot just stand still.”
